I'm having an issue with my new Iphone SE and the double clicking the home button when locked to bring up apple pay.

99 times out of a 100 it just unlocks the phone, sometimes by chance it will bring up apple pay.

I've ensured all the settings are correct within Wallet and Touch ID.

Has anyone else had similar issues? Or know how to fix it?

Thanks in advance

This isn’t much help but mines working as it should.
Mine is working as well. Have you tried restarting the phone? That has solved many issues for me in the past.

Also try this:
Tap Settings > Wallet & Apple Pay then switch Double-Click Home Button off then back on then restart your iPhone.

Same thing happens on my 7. Not the phone. It’s your latest iOS update I’m sure. I haven’t heard anything

Tried everything, it's completely bizarre.

Like I say, sometimes I double tap and the feature will work, then the next time I try it will just unlock the phone and straight to the home screen.

Called Apple and no use at all, think i'll be sending it back

I think it's a software issue actually.

I've turned off the use touch id to unlock the phone feature and then when I double tap on lock screen, apple pay is enabled immediately, every time without any issue.

It's when both options (touch ID for unlock and Apple Pay) are selected it is causing an issue.

Probably defective button, replacement should fix. Sorry, hopefully process is not too painful. 😬

Not sure what the issue is. Mine works as intended. I used it three times today alone. Sorry for your luck.

Isn't there a setting somewhere under "Accessibility" where you can change the double-click speed of the home button? Maybe this does anything for you?

I’ve switched from a 6 to the SE. Haven’t used Apple Pay on the new phone yet. The double tap thing is new to me.

I’ve always just put the phone near the pay terminal and Apple Pay appears on the lock screen without pressing anything. Does it not work like that anymore?

This. That setting could be the culprit here, aside a faulty button. Then again, the SE does not have a „button“ per se that‘s to press...

Did they change how this works in phones with home buttons? On my 6s all I have to do is hold the phone near the reader with my finger on the home button and it works with no double tap required-- I never even heard of that.

You double tap when your iPhone is in standby. Instead of unlocking the phone it takes you straight to Wallet.

Just so I have this straight....you MUST double tap the home button? Holding it near the terminal no longer works automatically?

If so, seems like a step backward.

The way it is set up for me (I guess it’s standard) is like this: Holding it near the terminal does not wake my iPhone or unlock it. If I just press the home button, it wakes up and unlocks to my home screen. If I do a quick double-press, it takes me straight to Wallet where Touch ID is scanning my finger and then everything proceeds.

The way you describe it sounds like a shortcut, maybe it‘s possible in Settings?

So I’ve gotten a chance to test the new SE with Apple Pay at a couple of grocery store pay terminals.

I don’t have to double tap the home button. Simply holding the phone near the terminal brings up Apple Pay automatically, just like my iPhone 6, only much faster.

Not sure why it doesn’t work this way with some other phones.

Sorry for the delay in replying to this...

It was a software issue, the phone had been set up using an existing Iphone 11. I removed my Icloud and started again, setting the phone up using Icloud rather than Iphone 11 and worked fine.

Presuming something with the software of double tapping the 11 home button to bring up Apple Wallet

Glad to know that you figured it out! 👍

Good to know in case anyone runs into similar issue in the future. That was a tricky one, I use this feature a lot so that I don’t have to hover phone as long over the reader.

Yes agreed on the usefulness of the feature. Use it every day on the tube in London. Much easier than unlocking and going into the app or getting physical card out of my wallet.

Seems to be inconstant for me too. I just hold my thumb on the home button and move the phone to the reader.

Did you set it up using an existing phone with Face ID?

If so, try doing it straight from Icloud instead. Worked for me

I’m having the same issue with my SE. Migrated iCloud backup from an iPhone 8 Plus. After I restart the phone the double click brings up Apple pay for a seemingly random amount of times (2 to 15) immediately after the restart and then just stops working for no apparent reason. Really annoying, pretty sure it’s a software bug.

So what do you mean by removing iCloud and started again setting up the phone using iCLoud? Do you just log out of iCloud in Settings and log back in?
I recently set up the new SE using my 5S which didn't have Apple Pay. When I double click the Home button, the iPhone simply unlocks in the first click itself and doesn't launch Apple Pay. I set up the new SE, using the iPhone transfer feature where all the settings, apps and data are transferred from 5S. So how to get Apple Pay working using double tap? BTW, is it double tap or double click Home button whe the iPhone is locked?
