I currently have an SE 2nd gen and I’m debating if going to XS would be a downgrade?

I know the XS wins in the screen and RAM dept, but my main concern are the cameras. Are they better or worse than the SE2?

I think the camera on the XS is a little bit better over SE2.
Plus you have a better screen.

Battery life I think it's the same.

In my opinion, going from SE2 to XS would be an upgrade.

Overall, it's an upgrade because of the speakers, display, and HDR playback. And of course Face ID.

For the camera and performance, it's a wash:
  • Next Gen Smart HDR in exchange for Telephoto
  • A13/3GB in exchange for A12/4GB

XS is nice despite one generation behind on silicon. Force touch is just nice to have.

For camera, given almost all companies spend majority of their resources enhancing computation power for post processing, I really don’t see too much of an impact from lenses imo, except maybe the night shot on iPhone 11.

Have you seen the photos from the SE2? I doubt it, the cameras on both devices are really good. One has a mechanical advantage while the other is software. I have the XS max and never use the telephoto lens.

To OP: In the end, it depends on the price. The XS has an OLED panel while the SE doesn't. The SE will be more "future proof" but honestly both phones will be good for at least 2 more years.

Look at the title again. SE 2020, not the original SE from 2016. And the original was a "glorified" version of both 5S and 6S, not the 6.

The photos from the SE 2020 do look better than Xs because of SmartHDR 2, but in Portrait due to the Tele camera the Xs is doing better I think.
