Today I was lying in bed and I received a message. My phone was on the charger at the end of the bed, so I ignored it. A few minutes later I got another message. It was a guy friend asking me what I meant. I was confused so I asked what he was talking about. We went back and forth for a second (I was still confused). He sent a screenshot of me texting him "ly" in between the two messages he had sent me. I immediately sent him a screenshot of my messages. The "ly" message was simply not showing in my messages. It's almost like a third party sent him a message. He of course doesn't believe me, but idc about that. I'm just trying to figure out how this could happen. No one else knows my Apple ID and pword. I don't have any other devices. It also couldn't have been a prank bc I was home alone. I need an explanation bc it's unsettling that a phone can just send a message and unless the person receiving chooses to respond, you'll never even know it was sent. Smh Help please!

Sorry this was so long. I just wanted to thoroughly explain what happened.

I heard someone mention the same to me last week. That they send a message but there was other words added to the text message that appeared on the message that the sender never included.
Not sure what to make out of it.

was it iMessage or text?

if text, i believe you can spoof numbers. someone might be messing with you

It sent to him via text (which I also thought was weird bc all of our other msgs were iMessage). So how would somebody get his number to send it to him from my number?

But did the sent message show in their phone? My phone has no record whatsoever of a message being sent.

This could simply be someone who has your old number. I had a situation where I switched carriers but kept old phone as an iPod but activated a new phone with a new number. However I kept receiving iMessages from the new owners of my old number on my old phone. Happened another time when my daughters iPhone 6's service was cancelled because of her grades. She still used the iMessage feature on her iPhone because all you need is an email address however she kept receiving messages intended for the new owners of her old number. If you got a new number chances are that whoever had your number previously has the old phone with the same settings which includes YOUR phone number. They would need to go into their iMessage and de-select under the "send and receive" option, to use their old phone number to send/receive messages. Hope this helps!

I'm wondering if it is possible that those messages are originating from an old email address/number that you used to have. Ask your friend to check your contact info on his phone, and make sure that he doesn't have any "old" entries listed, and everything is correct. Even if it was coming from a "wrong" number, it would still display your name, if that number was listed/associated in your contact info on his device.

One other thought...Have him check "Linked Contacts", on your contact info..
