bought iphone 5c from tradeline city stars Egypt and thought it'd be a trusted source. started having battery problems 6 months later and after 2 months more home key stopped working. when i took it to tradeline service center they discovered that the serial number on the phone is DIFFERENT from the serial number on the ''sealed'' box .

tried contacting apple about it but didn't get any reply so far.

any suggestions or ideas how that happened?

Unless there was a hiccup on the manufacturing line, then if you bought a "new" phone you didn't really get one.

Most likely explanation; someone bought a new phone, had a problem, it was swapped out at Apple under warranty, the person returned or sold the phone to your retailer, they cleaned it up and sold it to you. The sealed box was resealed; shrink-wrap machines are easily had.

When you put the serial number into Apple's warranty checking site what do you get? http://selfsolve.apple.com

thanks for your help

i tried running both serial numbers and the one on the box said that it was replaced. i've contacted apple support about it and waiting to see what they will do.
