Hi all. First post so let's get on with it:

There is a decided lack of Iphones available at Apple stores. Stores I have been in touch with in LA, WA, MN and NY have all been out of 16Gb phones for well over a week. The Apple store on line is quoting 5-7 days for delivery.

AT&T stores have them in plentiful supply however, leading me to believe that they are getting preferential service or they may be tired of losing Iphones to other networks after unlocking...

Anyone else know what the story is?

Same here in HI, Went to the apple store to purchase a 16gb, but one of the employees told me it was out of stock. Walked into an AT&T store right after and was able to buy a 16gb. I think the 16gb iphones are just high in demand so they keep running out, because Apple seems to have plenty of the 8gb.

I just got back from a week in LA. We were 4 guys from Norway all wanting 16GB iPhones, but every store in LA was out. Plenty of 8GB though. We waited a week in hope the 16 would arrive, it never did. Now I´m the happy owner of a 8GB.
(We didn´t go to any AT&T as we were taking the phones back to Norway)
At the same time a friend of us was in NY and he couldn´t find it either
