iPhone shuffling songs...

Okay so i have a 1G iPhone and I noticed a few days ago that when i listen to a playlist or just songs it is shuffling my songs..even when i don't hit the shuffle button.
I could have done something to make it do this i guess but i have no idea.
Is there a way to turn shuffle on all the time?
That maybe i can turn off some how?
Lol.
Or is there something wrong with my phone.
I would rather not drive all the way to the apple store if I don't need to since the nearest one is pretty far away.

do you have all your songs details correct, are they all group within albums, otherwise it may appear it is picking a random song instead of following on with the same album or artist.

to find the shuffle button play a song, then tap the album cover you would see a status bar of how many mins does the song have left. On the left hand side there is a icon with two arrows crossing make sure this isn't blue.
