Hey Guys-
So I've been having this promblem lately (for the past 2 weeks or so) and I was wondering if anyone could help, or if you have noticed the problem also. I used to use the wall charger to charge my iPhone at night since it was right by my bed. However, when I woke up in the morning I would have to press the top button and wait a few seconds for the thing to "wake up" then I would see that I got voicemails(but no missed calls), and my alarm did not go off-- meaning it must have shut itself off. I also tried it with the dock, and it does the same exact thing-- and it didn't even charge the whole way...it sounds more or less defective because I don't think there's a "standby" mode or anything like that... any help would be great

If you can, try charging it overnight via USB with your computer and see if it does the same thing.

If not, it might actually be a faulty wall charger, which have been common. Your iPhone might be shutting off due to low battery in the middle of the night.

Just to add that you want to make sure the computer does not go to sleep. The USB ports will not have power if it does.

I think what the poster means is that they tried the wall charger and the dock and encountered the same problem with both. From what I can gather, it doesn't sound like the problem is that the battery drains fully since the poster is able to use the phone immediately in the morning without plugging it into anything.

I don't have a solution, just trying to clarify the problem!!

same issue as original poster...

hi all --

I have the same issue as the original poster. I just got my iPhone 3GS a week or so ago... it works great.. no issues.. then yesterday I upgraded the OS to iOS4... no errors.. corporate email ported over nicely.. all contacts and music and data. Worked great... so today my phone was at about 40% power and I decided to plug it into the wall to charge.. no issues.. i left the room and came back after an hour or so.. went to check email.. iPhone was unresponsive. It wouldnt wake from its hibernation mode...pushed center button.. pushed top button.. nothing. I had to hold the top button and center button to hard reboot the device for it to respond.

I thought it was a one time incident.. checked my emails.. plugged it back in and left again... then came back about 30 minutes later and same issue!!

I called apple support and they think that the backup that was created and restored as part of the migration process might be the fault. They want me to reset the phone.. and NOT apply the backup... and see if I have the same issue. If so then it seems like an OS/hardware issue. If the issue is not present then to restore the backup.. and then see if the issue comes back.

I would give it a try but i have RSA keys and VPN certs that are on my phone that I need on a daily basis so I cant try it at the moment... do you have any suggestions?
