Hi people

I put the little piece of plastic the sim card drops onto in the iPhone the wrong way round, it went in 80% of the way before i realized.

problem is, i can't get the damn thing out, i tried using force, i tried the paper clip thing to release it, i tried tilting it side to side, its stuck.

Has anyone done this? if so how did you get it out.

Really silly , you'd think Apple would guess some people might insert it the wrong way.

Not really silly...the card has one and only one way to go in and be read by the phone.

And isn't it pretty hard to go into the slot the wrong way? When I first got the phone I started to put the slider into the slot the wrong way but I don't think I could even get it half a cm in there.

When i put it in wrong way it EASILY went in %80 of the way and now its completly stuck, God im going to feel stupid taking it back, lol.

It is for me. Never thought I could do it.

Not sure what it could be stuck on...can you get the card out at all? That might loosen it up.

I actually took the card out.

I tried my pay as you go sim in it to see if it'd work, then took it out and when i put it back in the sim wasn't actually in the holder.

It's stuck 80% of the way in, i tried using force but just isn't coming out at all, i tried youtube to see if any videos to help as i assumed other have had this problem but nothing on google or youtube.

So to anyone reading this BE CAREFUL when reinserting the card holder.

Thanks for your help people, all the best.

Can you take it to a Genuis? The reason I ask is that if you break it on the way out, it is your problem. If a Genius breaks it on the way out, then you might have more leverage in a repair. Just a thought...

Good luck.

I didn't put a sim card back in it because it was faulty anyway and needs to be swapped (kept getting corrupt data error.)

So i'll just return it.

Anyway odd how this happened, i didn't even force it in or anything, just take care guys when putting in a new card.

Like to second the card-holder warning by AL82...

Just like to second the warning on inserting simcard holder the wrong way around. Very easy to do I assure you, and when it latches on something inside it is impossible to withdraw without damaging the reading contacts. Result is a simcard unreadable warning and of course activation/use then impossible. As an engineer and ergonomics consultant for a large European tech company, I am disapointed that Apple haven't thought this one through. Expect lots of returns.

It cant be that hard to get it stuck in the wrong way round as the guy at the genius bar a couple of days ago said that they now keep plastic sim card holders replacements at the apple store not to sell but to give to people who have put it in the wrong way and got the thing jammed.

what you need to do is insert another sim card into the sim tray. obviously if it is jammed all the way in then you're screwed. but if you can get one in put it in. then if you push in the sim tray and quickly pull it out you should have luck.
it worked for us.
i wasnt confident in it working again because it made some scratchy noises when putting in the sim, but the iphone still works now.
lovely

SOLVED - iPhone Sim card holder stuck in the wrong way round!

Yes, that fixed it- colleague had same problem:
-> we put in sim card - closed it and then pulled it out quickly :)

Key is to push in with card and then pull out quickly, it might take you one or two tries ...

...Expect lots of returns.

Not really, It's been basically the same sim tray design for a while and not many people have had this problem, usually you feel resistance when pushing it if it's backwards, sometimes a few people force it since they are accustomed to other phones...

Same problem here.

I have an old 3G and wanted to test a friends sim card. When i finished i just put the empty tray back into the iPhone without noticing is was the wrong way round. It went in very easily and then got stuck. No way to pull it out.

As luketrev suggested a managed to put the sim card in the half inserted tray and then it was released.

Very good advice, thank you.

hi

Hi, i done the exact same thing today when i bought an iphone 3 from my friend, put a sim in, descovered is was locked to o2, took sime out, put tray back in, (wrong way) got it stuck and couldnt get it out, forced it out, broke the tray and then a little silver pin fell out.
Now i cant get it to discover any sim cards now at all.
Pretty gutted if bought it and broke it str8 away!!
Any advice or has this happened to anyone else? cheers
