So i was driving to a party tonight, and my wife was navigating off gMaps on iPhone. She put it down in a cup holder so i can see it while driving. As soon as she put it down, it beeped. at first, we weren't sure if it was the radio, or the car, or something else... but i touched the screen, and it beeped again.

it wasn't like playing an alert or anything, it was like a cheap pc internal speaker beep, and pretty loud too. i picked it up and put it down again, and it beeped when i put it down.

Now i was curious. I picked up iPhone (at a red light, don't worry), and started messing around. I could get it to beep again if i covered the bottom... then i noticed that the microphone seemed to be active. if i blew on it, it played through the speaker. It turned out the beeping was feedback from having the mic right next to something. i fiddled a little, then rebooted, which cleared up the problem.

It was funny, and i thought worth sharing. It really made me want a voice record/memo app. Maybe as a part of iPod?
