I've been having a strange problem with my iPhone for the past couple of days. I receive both my work email (Outlook/Push) and Gmail through the "Mail" application on the phone. This has never caused a problem.
It appears that at some point during the day, the phone stops retrieving or being able to retrieve mail - even if I hit the reload button to force it to retrieve, it just shows the "working" graphic but does not actually retrieve anything, in either account. It seems to happen when I am on 3G, but I cannot confirm whether it has also happened when on WiFi or EDGE.
If I turn the phone off and turn it back on, it starts receiving email normally again.
I have not tried doing a "restore" on my iPhone as I am afraid it will erase my existing email accounts (is that right?). I had the work email set up as a favor by one of our IT guys (as the head IT guy only wants people using Blackberries) so I hate to ask him to do it for me again. If doing a "Restore" leaves my accounts alone but just resets my other settings, maybe that is a good step.... though again, the email settings themselves don't seem to be the problem.
I have not downloaded any new apps recently, other than updates to existing apps. My iPhone is not jailbroken or any other unauthorized modifications.
