This is new, I know I already had my ripped CDs and iTunes purchases on my iPhone but this is new as prior it was listed under music (I do use Apple Music). Now though, Music is counted separately. Is there any way to see what is on my media category?

With Apple Music, your ripped & purchased music is part of your “iCloud music library” and can be downloaded like any other music. It’s all “Music.” But that’s nothing new, it’s been that way since Apple Music came out. So I’m not sure what “new” (different) thing you’re asking about??
