iPhone stuck in reset mode (keeps rebooting).

Im selling my iphone 3G and wanted to wipe my iPhone clean. I performed a restore with the phone itself (general settings and then tap restore). Its been over 4 hours and the phone looks like it keeps rebooting, turning off, then back on again just to keep rebooting.
Is this normal? How long does it usually take to reset a phone?

Doesnt sound like a normal procedure.
Put your iphone in DFU mode and restore it again thru itunes.

Is there a way for me to restore it without it updating iTunes? Right now Im using 3.1.2 (05.11.07)...that what the buyer wants when he gets the phone. I told him I would have it jailbroken when he gets it thru blackra1n

Download the 3.1.2 IPSW for the 3G model from here:
http://appldnld.apple.com.edgesuite...91008.Xsd32/iPhone1,2_3.1.2_7D11_Restore.ipsw
Then hold shift and click restore on itunes to select the firmware you just downloaded and restore it to that.
