iPhone Sync Help, Contacts and Calenders

Hey gang- I got a new macbook pro, and when I tried to sync my iphone to it all my contacts and calenders on the phone were erased.

I am trying to sync the phone in such a way as to get my contacts and calender events to the computer.

Any help would be appreciated.
