Iphone sync

I have an iphone3 and am getting the new one when it comes out so I wanted to sync my phone. I hooked it up to computer and it said it was charging but would not sync to itunes. All it did was do the charging....nothing else happened. I tried on 2 computers. I am using Windows 7 for the computers if that matters and the newest version of Itunes.

Any help or suggestions would be appreciated.
