Iphone syncing issue...not syncing

Hello all-

I recently purchased a macbook pro, I am in the process of trying to sync my itunes library back to my iphone. I am having problems, every time i try to sync, it flashs the "Sync in progress" for about 1 second and then stops and and nothing syncs.

Anyone know what the problem could be?
