I'm sure this was already asked but, why is there a iPhone in Germany for T-Mobile and not here? what are the chances of us getting one?

Sorry if already asked,
:apple:iKor:apple:

Apple signed an exclusivity agreement with AT&T. Chances of it showing up on T-Mobile anytime soon are probably not zero, but probably close to it.

Ahh I see, but that still doesn't explain how T-mobile Germany got it.
aslo I was reading how in summer 2010 the contract was up and that they are planning on going to T-mobile.

Thanks,

no, the iphone is staying with att for a long time. and they would never go with tmobile because they would make no money with them. also the way people use them on carriers other than at&t, is by unlocking them, which voids your warranty and pisses off at&t. germany may have a law against selling locked phones, so apple offers a factory unlock, in which the phone is always unlocked, even after restore. you will receive a carrier update request after a restore of a factory unlocked iphone.

Because AT&T paid them to be exclusive in the US. That contract runs out this summer. Expect it to be on Tmobile eventually. A guy I talked to at a Tmobile store said probably this summer. Although he's just speculating, along with the people in this topic.

no, they will probably resign with at&t, but sell them unlocked, they wont sell them on tmobile thats for sure. if they sell them on tmobile, not only will they have low sales, but the phones will only be able to work on edge, unless apple changes the frequency in the iphone.

ARGH, do you really still not understand this?? Apple has agreements with different carriers in every country! T-Mobile happens to be the carrier they chose in Germany! You're correct that some countries forbid the selling of locked phones, but Apple still partners with carriers in those countries (in some cases, more than one carrier), and even then the unlocked non-contract phones are way more expensive than if you get a contract with the "official" carrier. They don't just ship pallets of factory-unlocked phones to every non-US country and let people go nuts! And it doesn't "piss off at&t" when Apple partners with carriers in other countries...they couldn't care less!

And to the OP, T-Mobile in the US uses a different frequency band than pretty much every other GSM carrier on the planet (including T-Mobile Germany and AT&T), and the iPhone antenna doesn't support the band used by T-Mobile US. This is why you can't get 3G on a jailbroken/unlocked iPhone with T-Mobile here; it's actually a hardware limitation. For this reason, it's unlikely that you'd see an official partnership with T-Mobile in the near future even if AT&T exclusivity did end.

Tmobile Germany and Tmobile USA are different carriers in different countrys.
They dont have anything to do with eachothers contracts. Also Tmobile USA's 3G frequencys are not compatible with the iphones radio chipsets.
