iPhone tax in CA - help

I just purchased and iPhone in CA through the premier website. the phone was 299 and the tax was 41.17.

i thought tax in CA was 8.25% so the tax should have been 24.67.

anyone know why the huge tax? AT&T said i should take it up with the government... lame. i feel like they overcharged. they said they can't breakdown taxes.

any info is greatly appreciated.

the tax is for the unsubsidized price of the phone, which i think is $499. and 8.25% of $499 is $41.17.

That's exactly correct.

if you buy from at&t store they only charged 299 tax. happened to me and my friend, he bought at apple store paid 499 + tax, i bought at at&t store charged 299 + tax
