Hello all,

First the hardware info.
Iphone 3GS
3.1 (7C144)
ATT 5.6
Modem Firmware 05.11.07

I would like to use my Iphone for tethering my Macbook pro with the least amount of modification to the phone as possible. I've been waiting and waiting for the "official" release from ATT forever!!!! I have downloaded and printed out the instructions from iClarified (all 12 Pages). Pending Apple and att does not completely blow me away in the next few weeks during WWDC. I will do what's necessary to tether (that was one of the drawing points of my purchase of this device). So what is the best course of action? Links and Advice please

Thanks in advance.....

Jailbreak your phone.
Launch Cydia.
Search for MyWi.
Download it.
Open Rock (Next to MyWi).
Pay for MyWi
Go back into Cydia, uninstall MyWi.
Open Cydia.
Install MyWi (No Rock).

What is my failsafe if for whatever reason I decide to go back to the non-jailbroken status of the phone? is there a file I need to copy and put in a safe place before starting this process? how do I do it and where should this file be stored?

I'm running a MBP on OS X 10.6.3

Thanks

You can always plug your iphone to itunes and do a restore.
It will put it back to original factory firmware.
Nothing you need to copy or store. Just make sure you backup your iphone thru itunes so you dont lose anything.

Or just install MyWi
DONT PAY FOR IT (Trial)
Make sure tethering is enabled.
Delete Rock and MyWi via SSH.

So the fact that the phone is jailbroken does not effect syncing with itunes. I assume the only task that I should NOT do is update it to the latest software i.e. 3.1.x or whatever. Is this correct?

@ lionheartednyhc
I dont mind paying for an app like this as long as it's a one time fee (which I think is 10 bucks or so). The developer deserves it.....

Thanks again all.......
