iPhone thinks headphone jacks are plugged into it

I thinK there was gunk on the headphone jack and know my phone thinks the jack is plugged in. So now I can't use the phone - or listen to music unless I plug in jack. Is there anyway to over ride this in the software??

I had this issue a while back and it would crop up again from time to time. The way I was able to recover from this was to connect via a bluetooth headset, once paired up, make a call or listen to a voice mail, while on the call, use the audio listening option to change from head set to phone. then you can hang up and the phone should return to normal. If you plug a head set in or bt set in and disco, the phone should remain acting normal.
