Iphone Tmobile model locked or unlocked

I'm looking at a few Tmobile iPhones online and when I put the imei on an unlock site it says unknown. How can I find out if there Tmobile iPhones are locked or unlocked without opening them?

Unlocked if bought from Apple.

Right but how do I know where it was bought. Seller doesn't know for sure.

How do they not know where it was purchased? Was it stolen?

If the seller can't provide you with the necessary information, why bother buying from them? Don't take the risk if you need an unlocked phones.
