Apple is asking for 30 per cent of subscriber revenue and can't provide enough iPhones for a Christmas 2007 launch in Spain, according to Spanish technology company SevenClick which reports that it got the information from a senior manager at Telefonica.

SevenClick also claims the May 2008 launch will see a 3G version of Apple's super-slate.
The Reg.

I'd think this is more likely than 3G iPhone in January, especially since iPhone was released in 3 Euro countries. I doubt Apple would want to repeat the PR disaster that occurred when they dropped the price in the states.

Is there anybody else who, after a while of using the iPhone on EDGE and GPRS, really doesn't care about 3G?

EDGE is plenty quick enough if you ask me.

who gives a ****, wont be all "woo for 3g!" when its horsing your battery.

lets face it the only company over here thats made a go of 3G is three and well.. they suck ass.

It's just a pity that both 3G and EDGE coverage are really poor on O2. The only place I can get Edge is in the City Center. I can't get it at home, or at work where I actually need it :(

Same here. I work in Manchester and live in Warrington (the geographical centre of the NW of England!). Coverage actually disappears for GPRS on the train in!

I actually find GPRS alright for my needs, it works okay.

Hmm EDGE is OK. Wifi is when the device shines imo. So, I guess we'll see. I think this is a false rumour.

Anyone know what the EDGE status is in Spain? Italy?

Also why would Telefonica deliberately release this info just after the launch on their network in the UK (O2)? Doesn't make sense. If it's true it could stall sales here while trying to bargain Apple down.

You guys believe anything you hear.

Can't wait till Apple pushes out another iPhone that has WOAH, DONT SAY IT, 3G! And just maybe....DOUBLE the storage space! Woah! All within 5 months of the phone being launched in a single part of the world.

Can't wait to spend $500 to get...3G. Oh, and more space. What else they going to throw in? iPhone most toilettes?

Oh of course, and the UK was completely ignored because of it's current 3G network......get real, it's not coming in 2008 and very unlikely Apple would divulge even a hint of this info to a 3rd party like Telefonica.

Stop posting this BS

I don't view this rumour with much credibility (remember O2 had no EDGE until the GPRS software upgrades). However perhaps the low O2 3G coverage at present had something to do with that decision. If Telefonica have very high 3G coverage then that just points to a delay to releasing in that market when a 3G iPhone is available.

I still say March for 16GB and firmware 2.0, November 08 for 3G iPhone2.

btw. If you don't like wild speculation on these things why do you read a rumour site?

Be it 3G, GPS, increased capacity, built-in chop-o-matic, I don't really care. This has been my one concern with the European releases. After the release in June I had hoped to see something updated in late Jan/early Feb (I wasn't going to be able to buy until after the new year anyway). Now, I'd wager April/May, late March if we're lucky.

Why would it be any kind of disaster for Apple to suddenly come out with a 3G version? Do all phone manufacturers not come out with new and better models dozens of times a year? Does Apple not bump specs on its Macs or come out with better iPods all of the time? What is so special about the iPhone? The contract maybe? Other phones come with contracts too and become obsolete just as fast.
