iPhone To mac Desktop Photo Transfer: Best way ?

Hi,

Have a zillion photos on my iPhone.

Using Google Photos, which I imagine is a "cross platform" for both, how can
I transfer them to my mac desktop ?

Is putting them in Google Photos the best way ?

Secondary question:

I would also like to have them in a email Folder, but I doubt this is practical without using email as the transfer. Any way ?

Image capture on the Mac will import the photos, as files, to whatever directory you want.
