Of course I have all the paperwork from the trade in box, but no record of the return tracking number. Silly me, I thought Apple would have that on file since they were the ones who assigned it! Fruitless chat with support this morning, but have been escalated to the trade in investigation team.

I hope they find my phone because I’m not happy paying for a phone I don’t have.

First time using the Trade In program and this is not a good experience.

I’m sure mistakes happen. I took my box to the UPS store and got the receipt for the reason you mentioned.

Edit: good luck hope it gets sorted out.

That bites :(

I'm a bit paranoid and not very trusting, so much so, if I ship anything be it on my dime, or a company's such as Apple/ I make sure I not only have insurance, but the tracking numbers, so I can monitor and confirm receipt.

Good luck, hopefully this won't be terribly painful and things sort themselves out in short order.

That sucks. Hopefully it will resolve. I am on iUP, and this is why I always choose in-store pick up because this way I can just trade it in at the store rather than dealing with this nightmare of sending it back to Apple via fedex or ups.

Was it through Fedex or UPS? If it's Fedex, if you have your Fedex account, you can log in and see it under manage deliveries. I'm not sure about trade ins but if you initiate a return and print the shipping label apple provide for returns, as long as you have a matching name and address on fedex and on the label, it pulls up. I can't speak for UPS.

My issue is that I am not sure if it was supposed to go back UPS or FedEx. If it was UPS I am SOL on the tracking receipt - APPARENTLY - because my UPS drop off site is in an Auto Parts store and they EMAIL the receipt - no printout. I have searched my email history and... nada from September from them. I am kicking myself for not anticipating that this could be an issue.

My Apple Watch trade went perfectly only a week later.

I had the same problem and I handed it to them at the Apple Store. I checked with them several times and they siad not to be concerned. Emailed Tim Cook and no response so this must be common.

I THINK I FOUND IT IN MY FEDEX HISTORY THANK YOU FOR THE LEAD

Yes, this is definitely it - they got it on 9/27, I have the signed proof of delivery now

If its ever something of value, whether it be an ebay sale or a return/trade in I'll always take a photo of the parcel and label, a photo of the person collecting it (if I'm not taking it myself to be posted) and get a receipt for handover.

Hopefully Apple will find the phone, or at least be able to track it. Do you have any emails with any more info you might be able to use?

There is nothing useful in the Apple system, any detail is obscured. All I can see is a big message that says my trade was canceled. I do have proof of delivery though via my FedEx account.

It would be nice if the tracking numbers of the trade-in kit boxes were printed *somewhere*. I have the original box label that shows the original reference numbers and that ties to the FedEx shipment *detailed tracking* so I think that will be enough.

Going forward I will make sure to retain all the tracking info from the actual labels.

I have traded in my last three phones and all have got what they promised. The trade in program has worked good for me m

if you are able to travel to an Apple store: when you order the phone on line, pick the NO TRADE IN box .... then you can take your phone to the store within 14 days to trade it in. I was in and out in about 15 minutes and the $ was immediately credited to my CC.

My friend on the AUP is having the same experience. It seems this is becoming a major issue this year.

I sent them the FedEx tracking number via the chat agent and a few hours later I got notification that my trade is complete.

WIN!

thanks to all commenters, you helped me out today

I wonder who compensates for the iPhone. I would guess Apple must have some sort of insurance with FedEx against this, if not FedEx directly. I was especially curious for my friend whose AUP loan was resumed.

You really paid so little attention that you don’t even know if you shipped it via the correct carrier?

Oh I shipped it with the correct carrier, but yeah, I didn’t recall if it was the same carrier that delivered (UPS) the new phone or or not. The very fact that it was shipped back FedEx instead did register on some level, but tbh my memory isn’t what it used to be. Luckily I am still a good problem solver with a logical mind.
