Has anyone traded in their iPhones through Apple (either by sending in or physically in Apple Store)?

Do they check each and every functionality of the iPhone? What condition does the iPhone have to be in to get the full amount? I have a 5S I would like to trade in, but it's got two minor dings on the corner, and the TouchID does not work, so I was wondering if I can get the full £70 for it. Will they check if TouchID is working or not?

Touch ID not working is a bit too obvious. You probably won't get the full price. In fact they may not accept it if it's due to third party screen replacement.

Maybe. I am waiting to hear from someone who has actually traded in the iPhone in-store or online. Maybe they don't really check everything

I traded in an iPhone 6 that started experiencing the dreaded 50% battery issue. I traded it in at an Apple store and the salesperson only checked to see if the phone was in decent shape and powered on. He didn't check the TouchID. Of course, YMMV.

They don't care about battery life much because it's gonna be changed either way. Of course it depends on the person.
