Does Apple accept iPhone trade-ins? I want to trade-in my iPhone 4 for a newer model.

Do you get to choose which model? And can you choose between the locked and unlocked models?

You bring in your old phone. They determine how much it's worth (for your phone, it'll probably be between $50-$100), then they give you a gift card for that amount. You must use that gift card on a new iPhone, but it doesn't matter to them which one you choose. You can use it on a 4S, 5s or 5c, any size, any carrier.

new phone

you always have to buy a new phone for this trade-in AND sign a new 2yr contract, either subsidized or not based on your current at the time eligibility.

You basically trade it in for credit towards a new phone. That's what I meant.

Still wrong.

You get an Apple gift card. You can use the gift card for more than a phone if you have money left over. For example:

$170 (gift card balance for 4s)
- $99 (for 5c)*
___________
= $71 (for anything else in the store)*.

*Not including state sales tax
