That's because you cannot do talk and pull data while on 2G Edge. Its always been like that.
You need 3G or hspa+ (4G) for that.

It will always be that way. You can't use Edge data while on call. Ever.
Yes it will, it is a limitation with how EDGE works, no matter what phone or what software is running on that phone you will never have simultaneous voice and data over EDGE

It will always be the same when you are connected to 2G.
It's a tech limitation that has nothing to do with software or iOS versions.
its a limitation of the network and protocol.

I can use LTE and talk at the same time on my GS3, the iPhone is just limited to what it can do.
correct. As far as i know, the GS3 is the only smartphone that supports HD Voice via Voice over LTE
It doesn't do voice over LTE it still uses 3G (1x to be specific).
No, the GS3 has two antennas one for voice and one for data so you can continue to use 3G or LTE when you're on the phone. Mind you this is on a CDMA network (Sprint) so it may be a little different on a GSM carrier like T-Mobile or AT&T.
Hmm that's not true.
I had both the S3 and S4 and there were times when I was in Edge, and it stayed while on call.
Based on the quote above I guess the S3 and probably the S4 do have separate antennas for voice and data, so that's probably why it works. Otherwise EDGE still doesn't support simultaneous voice and data.
