iPhone turns off seconds after 20% warning

Hello there, this is my first post in this forum:)

I've just got an iPhone and since I live in Mexico it was sent to me unlocked and jailbroken to 1.1.3. But my iPhone has been turning itself off just after the 20% warning message, in the 5 days I've had it I've never seen the 10% warning. Then I plug it and if I charge it like 5min the battery status goes up to 50%, even thought I only charged it for 5min, and then turns off again at 20%. What could be causing this? Is the OS not reading the battery status as it should or is my iPhone faulty?
