Not sure when this started being an issue but anyone having the same problem.
I used to be able to turn the subtitles easily on and off while watching a movie using the iPhone remote app from control centre. It’s easier than asking siri or using the controller.
Seems the icons along the bottom are now a bit hit a miss I’d they appear or not. I think they are now content aware so should appear when something is actually playing. Anyone know if this is a bug or am I missing something?

What apps on the ATV are you using this with? I don't normally use the iPhone remote myself, but I just experimented a bit and the subs toggle is persistent for me across a few different apps, but only works in Apple TV.

It was while I was watching various films on Movies. Should work on their own app. I did try a few other just to see if it was a particular film or two. The odd thing is they'd sometimes show. Then, if I reopened it on the phone they won't be there again.

Yeah but you have those completely useless channel buttons there!

In all seriousness has anyone gotten those to work with anything?

They used to work fine directly from the lock screen too. I think iOS16 is where it’s changed as the gui has too. Same old thing with changes half the time, one step forward, two back.

They aren't "channel" buttons. It's chapters. I just tried with a couple movies I have in Movies and sure enough... the chapter buttons don't do anything, even though chapters are most certainly present and accessible. WTF Apple?

EDIT: my bad... they aren't chapter buttons. See dsaponaro's response.

Actually Apple refers to them as “Up/Down“ Buttons. Here’s a link to there support article…

And all the way at the bottom under “Use additional controls with live tv apps” it says…
  • Change the channel or page up or down in guides or menus: Tap the Up or Down button.

So the bit about automatically activate is what is broken in the app....

"If you have an iOS device with iOS 12 or later or an iPadOS device with iPadOS 13 or later, these controls are automatically activated when the device connects with Apple TV:

This does work for me. Its basically if your on the Apple TV and click on a text input field it pops ups a notification on the iOS device to input text via the iOS device keyboard instead of having to hunt and peck via the on screen tv keyboard.

Huh. My bad. I’m more used to Plex (I actually use Infuse) and my Harmony remote, which will do bona fide chapter jumps the way I have it programmed.

The keyboard input dialogue works fine, just the three active buttons on the controller art of the app doesn't :(
