iPhone iPhone unlock?

Hello there,

I haven't been keeping up with JB news for almost a year now, so I'm just wondering if someone can fill me in with the current info on where we stand for an unlock for the iPhone 5?

I currently have 6.1 installed with a modem firmware of 3.04.25

Is this lock expected to be released shortly after the 6.1 JB? Or has it possibly been stated that an unlock for the iPhone 5 is out of the question for now?

Please advise and thanks in advance.

Don't quote me but I saw somewhere recently that unlocking is deemed illegal in the US now. As of this week even. Sorry I don't know for sure, and dont mean to derail your thread, but I'm just saying.

But even if true what are th chances of getting caught (I heard $500,000 fine and/or 5 years jail time)

Unlocking is not allowed without notifying carriers anymore in the US. But only applies to phones bought AFTER jan 26th. So doesnt apply in any case.

Second, there has not been a software unlock for 2 years already. They have not software unlocked the 4s currently. So most people, for unlocks rely on old basebands (if you are one of the lucky ones supported by ultrasn0w), IMEI unlocks (paying someone to whitelist your IMEI online, so you are factory unlocked in the eyes of Apple), and Gevey Sims (sim imposer chip you stick between your sim card and the tray)

So depending on your situation, you may look into these options. But I would not advise waiting for a software unlock. But lets all hope I eat my own words and someone cracks the baseband

There is no chance of software unlock.
If you want to unlock an iPhone 5, this is your option (from your carrier or grey market vendor)

I dont see it happening either with a software hack.
You never know but we might see a gevey hardware sim adapter unlock or you can try getting the carrier to unlock it or any vendor that does carrier unlocks for your particular canadian carrier that your iphone is locked to.
I know those are kinda pricey though.

What do you mean by "vendor"? And where would I find a vendor?

They used to be plenty on eBay but I think they got removed. Try CL too.
