iPhone upgrade plan, phone only?

I already have a really good sim only deal, can I just use the plan to get the phone or do I need to combine it with a monthly sim contract too?

The plan through Apple is just the phone. You may have to pick your carrier but that doesn't matter. It's unlocked. Just pull the sim out and pop yours in.

I guess I should mention I was speaking for the US (sorry), but I do not imagine it would be operating any differently across the pond.

Apple's upgrade program is for the phone only--and it's unlocked. You find your own carrier and plan. Since you already have one, just pop in your SIM and it'll work.
