I am certain others have had this question, but I can't find it in search.

I got pre approved for the iPhone Upgrade Program yesterday, and in the process it asks you to verify you have an account with a carrier. The new phone will be used on my work account (I have permission) which is Verizon's network, but since its a government account I don't have a passcode for my line.

So, I used my wife's & kids account and input my kids number and the account passcode to verify the carrier step. I said there was money owed on the line but I could proceed anyway. I completed the order this morning, no problems very fast.

When i get the phone, I will immediately just put in my work Verizon sim card.

MY QUESTION: I noticed an "Upgrade Fee" of $40 on the order e-mail from Apple for Verizon. Will this mess up my kids line with the device payment plan we have in place directly with Verizon, not Apple, on that line?

Since I'm paying the new iPhone Upgrade Program directly to Citizens, Verizon would never know I presume. But, since I see that activation fee I worry that I may have accidentally canceled the Verizon payment plan for that line.

Can anyone confirm how this works? Surely many have done this or had this question?

Thank you!

I’m not in the US but I noted on Twitter that people were complaining to Verizon CS about the 40 charge and it was being cancelled.

I would strongly suggest calling and complaining, charging $40 for nothing is really horrible.
