I can't find any evidence of this online but rang Apple and they said you have to trade in an iPhone to START on the iPhone upgrade program? Surely that can't be right? I get that you have to give your iPhone back after 12 months if you want a new one but surely you don't have to trade one in to start the agreement from scratch?

Asked if it could be any phone that had to be traded in and was told that it had to be an iPhone...

Hoping the guy just got confused?

I got my 6splus last year and I did not have to trade anything in to get it on the upgrade program. I think the person you talked to was confused.
