Hello, today around 12:00pm, I started updating my Uncle's iPhone, who was currently running 2.2 (He is an AT&T customer, if that matters). I opened up iTunes, updated it to the latest version, restarted the computer and plugged in the phone. It popped up with the usual your phone is outdated download the newest update, so I pressed proceed or whatever (I backed up the phone FIRST, and also went into AppData and backed up the back up, as he is a doctor and his hundreds of contacts are very important).

iTunes downloads the update and starts to go through it's installation process. It makes very SLOW progress through, with a progress bar on the iPhone screen AND inside of iTunes. After an hour and a half, the progress bar on iTunes completes, and the phone restarts. After the restart, the phone pops up with the Connect to iTunes logo, and sits there, while the progress bar on iTunes remains full. It sat at that position for three hours until I finally decided to restart the process.

I restarted the computer and unplugged the phone, plugged it back in and opened up iTunes. It says that the phone is in recovery mode and I must run the recovery (basically installing the software again). I am in a loop and have no ideas on how to get out. Unfortunately, I had to drive back to campus so I am getting updates from him via phone. It is restoring the phone and is on the process where both iPhone and iTunes has progress bars, but it is still taking forever. I really need help.

The computer it is on is a Dell Latitude D830 running Windows XP SP3. I have tried both USB ports also.
