If I were to buy an iPhone and gave it to someone in another country, let say Vietnam. Can it be use there? Anyone know if they use the same band or do I have to install some other software?

At the moment it could only be used as an iPod after jailbreaking it. There's no software unlock for the 3G at this time, so you can't use it with another provider's SIM-cards. There are some hardware-hacks, which, unfortunately, are detectable by the providers and are illegal in most countries.

I have no idea if they're using normal GSM in Vietnam.
