so my friends iphone button for the silent/ringer popped off, his iphone 3g is over a year old and the button looked like it fell off, he can use his fingernail to move it up and down but thats really digging ur nail in, its like the cap popped off or something, think we can take it back to apple to get it fixed?

For an OOW repair price of about two hundo in the states, sure. I've had mine fall off too, but it was in the warranty timeframe so I just got a refurb swap.

A few of us here on the boards have used https://www.ifixyouri.com with great results. They are quick and reliable. I'd recommend checking them out. Significantly cheaper than Apple for OOW repairs.

thats terrible 200$$!! hmm is there any way i can fix it myself?

Yes you can do it yourself

Do not remove the complete Flex Cable Assembly, just the vibrate assembly. Remove the Switch, put the new switch in place. Do not remove the vibrate flex from the housing & put it back as is.

Make sure you turn your iPhone to vibrate before you are doing the repair.

Make sure to order the correct color switch.
