I'm thinking of switching to iOS from android but had a question on Apple's policy on video downloads. I was trying to download a video and noticed that I was unable to within Safari. After a bit of investigation it would seem like iDownloader was the resolution however this turns out to no longer allow music and video downloads due to a policy by Apple.

Eventually I found VLC could do the what was needed, however surely this is braking the same policy and could eventually be removed too? I'm a bit confused by all of this, surely just downloading video and music files shouldn't be restricted. My major concern is switching to an iPhone and then finding these apps that allow video downloading are removed from the app store.

Really appreciate your views on this or if Android is my only option. Only really thinking of switching to iOS because of the tight integration with the accessories (Apple watch, airpods etc) but don't want to do that a lose on the other things.

Using a computer to upload is not an option - I don't want to have to add extra steps and remove the flexibility I currently have.

Anyone able to help with this? I just basically want to know how comes VLC can download videos and iDownloader can't? Surely the policy applies to both?
