iPhone video through A/V Receiver and TV

I apologize if this should be in the Apple TV and Home Theater forum. I just purchased an episode of Rubicon through iTunes. The widescreen aspect ratio looks fine when viewed through iTunes on my computer. However, when I hook my iPhone up to my Pioneer receiver (with Pioneer's iPhone connector) and play it on my tv, the aspect ratio is off. The show should fill the screen with a 16x9 ratio, but instead it is pillarboxed on the top and bottom, making the image too wide and everything short and fat. Any ideas whether this problem is on the iPhone end or the receiver end? Thanks
