iPhone vs. iPad power plugs?

I have multiple iPhone and iPad USB cables and power adapters that the USB cable plugs into.

1. Are the smaller or larger power supplies for the iPhone? How do I know which ones are for the iPhone? Do they have something different written on them?

In addition, I believe you can attach an iPhone to an iPad charger and the phone will only draw the current it needs. The iPhone is listed as compatible with the iPad charger.
