iPhone w/o Data Plan

I had seen someone say that they talked to someone who works at AT&T and this person said that you could get the iPhone w/o a data plan.

I was wondering if anyone knew if there was truth to this. The reason I ask is because a lot of times that I would be using the internet I would be in an area with WiFi.

yeah I wanted to know this too, but actually the other way around... I was wondering if I could get just the 3G without voice/text service because I can text and MMS through wi-fi/3G

well either way i think it would add more appeal to the purchase....but again, has anyone heard word on this?

Yes and No

I believe you can do that now on the current iPhone and get it w/o and EDGE plan, but the new 3G iPhone requires it from what I've been seeing.
