Iphone web surfing > through mac or PC?

Can the iPhone 3g surf the web through a Wi-fi connection (or bluetooth or whatever) in a computer (like my imac)?

Or can I connect directly to a wireless modem?

I just don't want to go on a ridiculously expensive plan (with like 500MB a month) through 3G cellphone towers . (I live in Australia)

You would normally connect through your wifi modem.

You can also share internet form your iMac as long as its getting internet not via the wifi part of it. (e.g lan would mean you can use the iMac as a access point.)

Why not just get the iPod touch if you don't want a monthly plan?
