hi there! this morning i just bought an iphone and its says on the box is week 39. so i assume the firmware is preloaded with 1.1.1

here is i want to do..

i have an unlimited data on AT&T and my sim is Cingular 3G not AT&T
i dont want to activate the preloded sim provided by iphone.

if this iphone is firmware 1.1.1....
im gonna use KMAC procedure to downgrade 1.0.2 and use jailbreak to activate.

will my Cingular 3G sim will work on iphone?

i hope somebody can answer me, till now my iphone is still untouch and unopened.

i did all the search on google but i cannot find real answers.

i will give 2hrs on this thread. and if there was no answer, im gonna go back to apple and replace this iphone to touch

thanks in advanced.

From what I read, as long as it successfully downgrades it should work. But why would you not want to swap sims?

@diamond.g - thanks so much!
what do you mean swap sims?

i still have 6months on my existing plan, and i dont want to add more or extend my contract..

ok, so if im gonna do the procedure. i'd like to know if these 2 tool im gonna be needed?
i already downloaded the 1.0.2 and the independence.

I think the downgrade/jailbreak doesn't work for unlocks, which is AFAIK the only way to hop onto ATT and not activate it. I could be wrong though.

Seriously, what is your objection to extending your contract? Do you plan on extending it in 6 months? Is it really worth the aggravation of jailbreaking, etc? If you want to hack then thats one thing, but just to avoid being shackled to ATT? Seriously?

hail!!! hail!!! hail!!!!

i did it!!!! my iphone is activated and im using my cingular 3G sim!!!

version now is 1.0.2
but the model firmware is still 04.01.13_G

How about 1.1.1 and Cingular 3G SIM ??

I am very happy for you. I am sailing in the same boat as you. Is there any possibility that we can use 1.1.1 f/w,activate it and use Cingular 3G SIM?? Did you try that? That would be really helpful!

Thanks a million :)
Kiran

There have been reports on this site about AT&T looking for unlocked iPhones on their network and turning off the service to those phones. I don't know how true it is or not. It would make since they would do that.

I know this is fairly moot since your phone's already unlocked, but I don't think there was any need to. AFAIK, buying the iPhone does not extend your previously established contract.

I bought an iPhone in July. Was already an AT&T subscriber with my contract set to expire in February. 3 months later, the website still says I'm eligible for a phone upgrade in Feb.

Here's hoping you didn't go to all that trouble for nothing.

my iphone is still locked to AT&T
its just activated via independence.

i dont think that AT&T trace that im using an iphone? before i put this sim to iphone im using samsung sync. UMTS phone and sometimes i tether to my macbook. hundreds of megabytes on my billing statement :)

@mikeinmontreal - i bought my iphone @ apple store and its preloaded firmware 1.1.1 Week39

my screen is perfect!

reviving old thread... anyway here we go

I have a cingular 64k SIM card used in a samsung phone

I went through the unlocking steps using iNdependence.

I didn't have to upload AnySim for it to work. I activated it and used the jailbreak feature. I'm assuming that its because the iPhone recognized the SIM card because its virtually AT&T. Nonetheless, (independend of the rumor that cingular may or may not shut my service off) did this automatically alert the company of my change?

The reason for my concern is I'm on a family plan with 3 other phones. I do not want to disrupt the contract time as 2 of the members want to cancel at the end of this cycle.

Also, we just updated to unlimited text messaging. If I updated my plan to accomodate the iPhone it would be an additional $40 per month and I'd rather wait so I can take advantage of the new already-paid update to my account.

At first I assumed unlocking the phone via iNdependence would be the same as using another companies SIM. However, upon realizing I didn't have to install the AnySim function I became concerned with what Cingular knows and doesn't know at this point.

Thanks in advance for any advice.

worse comes to worse I just pay the extra $40 a month... oh well.
