Most people know the popular Mac chat client Adium.

Here, if you don't.

Does anyone think having this fantastic app on the iPhone could be/is a possibility? Everyone's talking about the integration of chat features into the phone, but not all of us use AIM (the UK is big on MSN). It doesn't have to work (at least, for me) using your service's data network, but simply through my home WiFi or when I'm out and about, connected to any Hotspots.

Oh and I know Steve isn't big on third party apps at the moment either, but perhaps some appeal could be made! :p

It I could get MSN on my iPhone, i'd really want one.

Skype and Adium would be great...Meebo will do fine if Adium doesn't come though...

With the dev announcement, it could definitely be a possibility.

The current lack of an IM client is the biggest deal breaker for me with the iPhone, though if there every was an official one, it would probably be iChat thus AIM and possibly Google Talk only, but Adium would be nice.

I read somewhere that the Adium dev team was trying to port it to the iPhone but it was proving to be difficult with the restrictions of the SDK, they had to rewrite their coding, they still have to update the desktop version of Adium, etc. They said it is coming, but it might take awhile.

I'm sure we'll see Meebo sooner then Adium. Meebo already did a nice little web app. Porting that shouldn't be as hard as a stand alone app like Adium
