loading that over EDGE is killer. This is great news I hope the update comes today or really soon!!!

i do hope they add that feature to the iphone (and can't see why they wouldn't in the next update if the ipod touch has it). needing to go to another keyboard view to type a period has always bothered me, and i didn't understand why they didn't do it this way in the first place...

Very handy. This will surely increase typing speed on the iPhone. While they're at it, why can't they make three-tapping the space bar be a question mark?

You can actually insert a period without changing screens each time. At the end of a sentence, hold the "?.123" selector & drag it, & it will display the punctuation screen, move to the desired symbol & remove your finger. The desired punctuation will be inserted & it will return to the original typing screen.

nice, thanks for the tip:)

This function will definitely come in the next firmware update to the iPhone.

Haven't we all learned by now that there is no such thing as "definitely" with Apple? We hope features will be added, but to say any feature definitely will come is a waste of bandwidth. Your subject line is also misleading, as it makes you out to have inside knowledge, which almost no one has. Reading page 61 of a different product manual does not make you an Apple insider.

i'm aware of that tip. but i've also been a blackberry user where the double-space enters a period, and i prefer that method.

Wait let me try that. Oh that was slick!

If you think about this a little differently, it's even easier: If you quickly slide onto "Z" you insert a period, if you quickly slide onto "X" then you get a comma. Obviously ignoring the change in screen. See what I mean?
