I've spent the last few days looking for a windshield-mountable iPhone dock, and never thought it'd be this hard! This is what it needs:
* Windshield mountable, so I can use it as a GPS
* Charger, preferably built in, and not a loose cable
* FM transmitter, either set externally or via app
* No additional cables for sound!
* Microphone, although might be able to use the iPhone's mic
* Bluetooth, although not really needed because it'll be on the mount all the time.
So pretty much something like the tomtom car kit, except with an FM transmitter. I thought a good option would be just a simple windshield mounted holder with something like the Belkin CarAudio Connect FM Bluetooth. However I can't seem to find that thing anywhere... might be a new product?
At the very end of my search, I saw that iLounge had done a first look of the Dension Car Dock, and it has all the features above. Kinda expensive ($130) and their free app looks a bit cheap (although might be better for driving?), but it looks like it's well constructed.
My last concern was that because the FM transmitter is set with their app, would I have to use it after the frequency has been set? Their app has a map feature but no turn-by-turn navigation. I'd like to use a real GPS app and have directions through my car stereo. I sent their customer service an email and found out that once the frequency is set, the app is no longer needed.
I haven't bought one yet, but over the past few days of searching, I saw many posts asking for a device similar to what I've been searching for, and wanted to post it here. I'm in no way endorsed by them, nor have I tried their product. Does anyone have experience with this car mount?
