I was wondering if you can use the iPhone with a regular family plan rates?

For example a regular family plan with three phones and only one is the iphone? So then i'd pay the normal$9.99 to add the iphone line and 15 for 1500 texts and 30 bucks for data.

Or does AT&T not let you add the iphone to a normal family plan? Also, if I had all iphones, would they automatically switch me over to the more expensive iphone family plan?

You can add the iPhone to a family plan. You just pay $9.99 for the additional line, and then $30 for the Data plan. so it would cost you $40 more a month.

Ah thanks.

Hmm this is a bit confusing:

Why do they limit how many you order online? I suppose I could still use a regular family plan with all iphones if I bought some at an apple/att store? But then how would I buy them without buying seperate 2 year contracts.. or maybe I should just buy all three at a store and they'd let me sign only one contract.

I'm on a family plan with my iPhone as the only smart phone.

All of the lines are the same, except with the iPhone, you:

Add a line: $9.99/month
Add Data: $30/month

Then tell them you would like unlimited family text for your phones, and for $30 everyone on the plan can text whoever unlimitedly. Works out nice, for me and my family anyway.

Of course, the first one or two lines is more. Also, if the plan is all iPHones, I think it costs more... but don't quote me on that. AT&T is a confusing bunch.

Okay I have one more question about getting a 3G with a normal family plan.

How should I get the iPhone to be hooked up with the plan from the get go? If I go into an ATT store will they let me buy a subsidized iPhone with a normal family plan?

I don't have an already existing family plan, I'd be getting both at the same time. I can add this to my kart on att.com just right, but when I activate the 3G at home will it let me do it with the family plan? Or do phones bought with a plan from att come already activated, including the iphone?

Another question for this one. I have a 3 phone family plan (None are iPhones). idk, $60 for two lines then 9.99 for the third. So $69.99 plus 30 for unlimited text. so my monthly total is around $100. IF I were to add an iPhone 3G to that, and replace one of those phones, would it just cost $30 and the iPhone would have unlimited text like the phone it replaced? Thanks

yes sir.

I have 2 iPhones on my family plan. Each gets charged $20 for data (first gen iPhones), $9.99, and we also have a family text plan at $30.

Lets say you ahve 2 ATT lines that you started July 08 and you want to add an iphone december 08.
Here is how it would look (numbers not actual butshould give you an idea)
Line 1 $60 1500 family talk minutes (2yr contract expires June 08)
Line 2 $9.99 regular phone (2yr contract expires June 08)
Line 3 $9.99 iphone (2yr contract expires November 08)
.........$30 iphone data plan
.........$30 unlimited messaging for all lines

It doesn't matter where you buy the phones, the length of contract is the same as are the prices for the service. However, Bestbuy tends to have better prices on the phones themselves.

Here I'll make my question more simple: if I order an iPhone online from att.com will it come activated or not?

Can anyone answer this? Or does ATT even send iPhones to people, or just send them to the nearest store?

When you order a phone and it comes in the mail, you have to dial a number to activate the phone. When you call in an order and it is delivered to an AT&T store, they activate it in the store before you leave. When buy a phone in the store, it is activated in the store before you leave. When you buy a phone from Apple in the store, it is activated before you leave. When you buy a phone on ebay, you will need to get a new At&t sim card and call At&t (or go to the store) and tell them you need your phone activated and you bought an iphone. Hopefully I covered all scenarios.
