When ever my dad plugs in his iPhone 6s Plus to the PC, Windows 10 will recognize it and ask what you want to do to it, however, iTunes doesn't connect to it. It doesn't show any indication that the iPhone is plugged in at all, but Windows 10 does.
First thing, make sure that iTunes is up to date - older versions of iTunes won't recognize newer iPhones. If that doesn't help, there's loads of help here: https://support.apple.com/HT204095
