Iphone won't go past apple logo on start up

I was messing around with my icons through SSH and I think I made the Icon too large for the phone. Once I resprung the phone just restarted itself and keps getting caught at the start up. I can't get into it at all and it just keeps thinking. I tried connecting to itunes so I can restore from back up but it keeps getting hung at backing up. Is there anything I can do here? Is there a way to do a hard reset from the phone?
 
Thanks, but now when I try to restore it doesnt give me the option to stay at 4.0. I can only restore and upgrade.
 
What iphone model you got?
It never gives you the option to restore to any version but the latest one.
You have to manually download the previous version that you want to restore to and point itunes to that ipsw by holding shift or option and clicking restore.
 
IPHONE 4. I'm not sure what to do anymore. I'm trying to cancel the sync and restore from back up but it just keeps thinking. I think the icon i put in there was way too big so it doesn't know what to do.

You cant restore from backup, that just transfers your contacts, texts and other stuff back not your OS/firmware that you messed up by ssh into the filesystem.
Do you have shsh's saved in order for itunes to let you restore to 4.0 or 4.0.1?
 
No I dont think so. I didnt even know I could have saved ssh.

I just need to get the phone to the home screen so I can sh back in and change the icon.

When you opened up cydia did you see anything on the top saying "this device has SHSH's saved for firmware version 4.0, 4.0.1 etc..?
And you wont be able to get to the homescreen any more.
You can still SSH into the phone even if it doesnt boot to the homescreen as long as the iphone is turned on. And maybe try to put back the stock icon and replace the faulty one you copied over.
 
I dont remember seeing that, but I was never really looking for it. I just keep getting to the apple screen. What a mess. LOL


I just downloaded 4.0.1. Had do I choose that file in itunes when I press restore? Do you even think this will work?
 
Not sure exactly what folder and what icon and where you replaced either bro.
Try to remember, how did you do it? You didnt have a tutorial online or a guide on where its saved and what to replace? You just started copying and replacing files? Thats a very bad idea, hope you learned something from this.
 
Yep, I learnt is the hard way. I just sshed into the phone and changed the file back to the normal. I just don't know how to respring since I don't have the option. Took me about 3 hours to figure out the ip address. I have about another 3 hours to figure this one out. LOL
 
Holy ***** I got it back. TY so much for all of your help. All I was trying to do was make one of my icons to be 114x114 so it looks retina. No idea how do it i guess.
