iphone wont play music on dock??

hi all. my iphone has been fine.
got a radio with a dock ontop to play my iphone through and it works fine with another iphone. it used to work with mine but now it wont.
my iphone charges off it but wont play through it. the radio just says 'insert ipod'.

any help greatly appreciated. thanks
