So my phone has been messing up on me lately, coming up with these notifications that "this Iphone does not support this software" or something like that and also froze up on me today, so I figured I should restore it just in case I had to send it in. I backed up my contacts and then hit the restore button. It said "restore and update" which I clicked and after a bit of downloading stuff (the updated software im guessing.) After all that an error box popped up and said:

Im using a macbook. I used limerain to jailbreak. The software on the phone now is 4.1

Thanks for any help that you can through my way.

For the "this device isnt eligible for the requested build" error in itunes, this solution works like a charm!

I had the same problem. Found the solution in comments to the Dev Team Blog post.

I'm copying and pasting the instructions below, and it worked for me.

Check your hosts file to make sure 74.208.10.249 gs.apple.com is commented out. It's a file that the operating system uses to resolve domain names to IP addresses.

On Windows it's located at C:\Windows\system32\drivers\etc\hosts
On Windows 7 you might need to Right-click on Notepad and 'run-as administrator' to be able to edit the file. Then browse to C:\Windows\system32\drivers\etc.

In OSX it's located at /private/etc/hosts
The best way to edit the file here is run the following from the terminal app
sudo nano /private/etc/hosts
When it asks you for your password use the same on you use to log into the system.
Add a # before the 74.208.10.249 gs.apple.com
Press Control O to save, hit enter, and control X to exit the editor

I found this same post when I searched this forum for the word 'requested'. Imagine that.
