Hi,

Just been on holiday and used Filmic Pro to record some 4k videos on my new iPhone X. Come home and trying to get them edited in FXPX and won't show the video , just audio. Gone to photos on the Mac and can't play them in there. Says unsupported. So I have a £1200 phone that I've captured 4k 60fps amazing video (so the hype says) and can't play them back never mind edit them. I have had to use the HEVC format as can't get 60fps 4k otherwise. Tried exporting from photos to a folder on the Mac and it says unknown error 1,012.

Absolutely fed up to death of Apple and its hype. Got £1200 worth of phone and can't even use the footage I've shot on the %$£$%^& thing.

My guess is you are using the new high efficiency codec setting under Camera>Formats which I believe uses x.265. By having that set, you have to have a brand new MacBook Pro 2017 to be able to watch those videos using the photos app. I had to use QuickTime to convert the video back to normal in order to view in on the photos app. Apple dropped the ball on this one.

oh and I stopped using that format to avoid the headache altogether until it is adopted better.....

I can’t even open it in QuickTime. How can I convert ?

I'm not sure we had the same problem. What format is the video and what is the extension? The app you used doesn't give you the ability to convert the video? Maybe a third party video app can open it and convert it?

Use iMovie!

iMovie won’t allow me to edit it as good. If I import it into iMovie can I then convert it to a format that will open in fcpx?

It's not a 2017 Mac, it's High Sierra for compatibility - works terrific on my '15 MBP running 10.13.x.

(I think there's some hardware acceleration in later models)

I just read up on it again after you mentioned it so I will give the format a try once more.

I'm on HS and everything seems to be working (though I've shot a bunch of video, haven't edited any off the iPX, just played back, including some AirDropped video files - just did a few quick edits in iMovie on iOS), but let me know, I also have an X, I can cross check anything for you :)

I have an 8+ but I don't think that matters. I tried it before but I'm not sure I was on High Sierra as iOS 11 came out before and I think that maybe the issue I seen when I tried playback on the Photos app initially.
